Cockney Campaign

£70.00

Product description

Published by Stanley Paul & Co Ltd, Circa 1944-45 on war economy standard paper.

An extremely interesting piece of wartime history from an unusual aspect. The author, Frank R Lewey, was Mayor of Stepney during the London Blitz in the 1940s. His book written immediately afterwards tells the story of how the ordinary people of the borough coped and did their bit to help with the war effort. It details things that everyone, from children to pacifists, did. Illustrated with some 19 pages of photographs.

There is an introduction by Clement Atlee whilst still Deputy Prime Minister so before the 1945 general Election.

This is a rare and unusual book which can be read both as Military or Social history.

It has the original unclipped dust jacket which has a fair amount of wear and damage. The covers themselves have some wear and mildew, and a couple of pages have splits along the binding but all pages and complete and in good condition.
