Large, very heavy books with gilt decorations on the front and gilt titles on the spine. The corners are bumped and the spine is worn along the hinges. The page edges are gilt. The inside cover and fep are red and gold marbles paper. The front cover and fep are detached from the rest of the book but held by the spine. Published in 1907 by W T Pike of Brighton. Internally the book is clean and bright, it illustrated with monochrome photographs. This book is one of a series of Pike's New Century Series, No. 23. and is one of the Contemporary Biographies. The book contains descriptions of places within these counties plus short biographies of prominent people in various walks of life.
