Dawn To Daylight : Or, Gleams From The Poets Of Twelve Centuries - Illustrated

£50.00

Product description

" This volume makes no pretension to antiquarian research...; nor does it profess to give specimens from all the poets with whom our country has been so richly dowered. It simply offers - in accordance with its title - 'gleams' from the divine light which has shone on our race now for twelve centuries - waxing and waning with the passing years, but never extinct; and though differing in glory in its several manifestations, always a light in which we rejoice.'' (Preface)

A stunning collection of poetry by a variety of poets spanning from 725 to 1868 featuring over two-hundred illustrations. Poetic contributions from Chaucer, Queen Elizabeth I, Caedmon, Alexander Pope, Robert Browning and many more.

Hardback antiquarian book with a red cover and gold embossing, and gilt-edged pages. In very good condition for its age, with slight rubbing upon the spine and corners and foxing throughout. No publication date but inscription on the front free-end paper is dated 1876. Filled with beautiful illustrations it is a lovely addition to a poetry collection.
