Design: The Making of Patterns

£17.99

Product description

Published in 1914 by Chapman and Hall. Subtitled: 'An Exposition of the Principles and Practice of the Making of Patterns'.

This is a treatise on many types of designs, covering a large range of subjects from architectural to textile designs. It covers the principles of design for all subjects and is both generalised in concepts and specific with details (such as symmetry, leaf designs, repeating patterns, small spaces, sub-division, outline and brush-work, and lettering). The book is extensive illustrations with some 177 line drawings and prints.

Clearly laid out this is a useful and interesting book for anyone interested in how designs are created and work. Written in a period renowned for beautiful design (Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts), it is a fascinating book.

The cover is slightly discoloured and has some edge wear and bumping to the corners. The internal pages are generally in a good clean condition with very little damage of foxing. End papers are yellowed.
