Original pictorial green cloth with art nouveau illustration to board. Spine panel stamped in black and gold, other edges rough trimmed. First edition. Wear to the boards which are grubby and frayed at spine ends, edges and tips. Binding is sound and book interbnally clean with exception of a little darkening to page edges which doesn't affect text.

Lang linked psychical research with his anthropological studies . This book sets out mainly to tell in strictly historical form, all the best attested psychical stories, from classical times to contemporary savage parallels imparted to Lang by his cousin James Jasper Atkinson who had emigrated to the South Seas. Topics include crystal visions, hallucinations, wraiths, modern hauntings, Icelandic ghosts and mixed bogies.
