Endurance. An Epic Of Polar Adventure

£400.00

Product description

This is a very rare first edition of Endurance; An Epic of Polar Adventure by Frank Arthur Worsley, published in 1931. It is the account of the work of Sir Ernest Shackleton and his men on their Antarctic expeditions. Admiral of the Fleet, the Right Hon Earl Jellicoe, writes in his Foreword that it is a tale 'of high courage, of invincible endurance and irrepressible humour through hardship and danger'. This book is in fair condition. All the plates are intact, though there is some minor cracking. There is no dust jacket. The orange cloth boards are moderately stained and the edges of the covers and spine are fraying. The edges are bumped. Inside there is minor foxing, but pages are generally clean and bright, although there are a few minor ink marks over the rear pages. There is an owner's inscription to the front inside cover. A poem has been written into the inside back cover and a newspaper cutting dated 22/4/1933 stuck in.
