Containing an introduction to decimal and logarithmic arithmetic, practical geometry, trigonometry plane and sphere, geometrically and logarithmically with their uses in navigation, viz. In plane, Mercator's and middle latitude sailing, geography and nautical astronomy; illustrated with charts and diagrams. With an introduction to the Lunar Method of determining the longitude at sea. The Gregorian or new calendar, description and use of the Plane Chart, Mercator's chart also of Hadley's octant and sextant. A table of latitude and longitude of places, tables of latitude and departure to every quarter point and degree of the compass to 300 miles distant. A table of meridional parts, solar tables, natural sines etc. A table of 10,860 logarithms and logarithmic sines, tangents and secants.

1790 edition. (The original first edition was 1686) Revised in this edition by John Adams. The fold out charts are intact and in good condition. The binding is poor, the original boards and spine are present, the boards are loose but just about holding together. The leather is chipped, worn and marked (see photos). The front end paper is mostly missing, the remaining piece has two previous owner's name from the early 1790,s. Other names are present too. There is sellotape helping to keep the end papers attached. The pages, though age browned, are in remarkably clean condition.
