Product description

John Dicks, undated but circa 1840. Paperback. 124 pp plus adverts.
Eugene Aram is a melodramatic novel by the British writer Edward Bulwer-Lytton first published in 1832. It depicts the events leading up to the execution of Eugene Aram in 1759 for murdering his business partner.
Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton PC (25 May 1803 – 18 January 1873), was an English novelist, poet, playwright, and politician. He was immensely popular with the reading public and wrote a stream of bestselling novels which earned him a considerable fortune. This is one of his earliest novels, first published in 1832.
Our copy is circa 1840, an unusual paper wrap copy published by John Dicks, London, a "People's Edition", in the Dicks' English Novels series - No. 9. - price sixpence. With 8 illustrations by M W Ridley. Adverts for other novels in the series includes Charles Dickens - No 60 Pickwick Papers, No 84 Nicholas Nickleby, No 85 Oliver Twist, No 86 Barnaby Rudge. "Shortly to be ready: The Old Curiosity Shop." From which we deduce circa 1840.
Book condition : Fair. The spine is torn, tears to front cover, chipping to edges. Binding still tight. Internally clean and bright, albeit some minor foxing. This, we believe, is a scarce, and hence collectable, copy.

Oxfam Shop Ulverston

Ulverston is a traditional market town that attempts to retain a sense of the Dickensian times as typified by the festival run in November. We are a conventional Oxfam shop and sell anything and everything that will be of interest to someone. We have a good reputation as a second hand bookseller and are developing a reputable clothing offer. Our friendly staff are always ready and willing to assist and we are continually on the lookout for more potential recruits. We have a strong focus on Fair Trade and like to run events to spread Oxfam's message and raise extra funds.
