Fifty Years of Sheffield Church Life by Reverend W. Odom

£30.00

Product description

The Reverend W. Odom begins 'Fifty Years of Sheffield Church Life' with: "A small boat must not have a heavy cargo [...] I much hope the cargo which this book carries may not be deemed too heavy." Exploring the life throughout Sheffield churches from the late 1860s, Odom breaks down his subject to small topics such as life at St Simon's Church; life in Heeley; and the role of books, travel and war in the development of Sheffield's religious community.

This is a first edition copy in good condition, with a red cloth cover and gilded titling on the front and spine. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine, but it is unbroken and the binding is tight. There is some evidence of wear on the cover, such as fading and smudges, though this is minimal. There are two small, written enscriptions on the front interior and back interior cover. There is evidence of mild foxing and tanning to the page block and interior pages, all of which are cut in the 'ragged jagged' style, but all text is clean and unmarked.

A wonderful slice of Sheffield history from the early 20th century.
