Subtitled as: "In Syria, Greece and Italy: A succession of visits to the scenes of New Testament narrative". The book has red cloth-covered boards and spine with gilt main titles. The front and rear boards are embossed with a symmetrical pattern. The book has some bumping to its corners and there is some shelf wear although the gilt-edged pages are well-attached to the spine. The dark green endpapers are generally well-attached to the boards although there is some tearing at the front endpaper. Some of the pages are becoming detached from the spine, although none appear to be missing. There is a hand-written dedication dated 12/1/1867 on the title page. The book's illustrations include 23 steel engravings and 24 wood cuts throughout. There is a folded map of the eastern Mediterranean Sea after the contents page.. The pages are showing signs of foxing.
