Goethe (in German) (with original slipcase)

£12.99

Product description

This book is about the life of Goethe and the effects of his works.

The author, Friedrich Gundolf (1880-1931) was a German-Jewish literary scholar and poet and one of the most famous academics of the Weimar Republic. He took a new, historically-oriented view on literature, which centred on the philosophically determined registration of the the poet. To him, the great writers (such as Goethe or Shakespeare) were symbolic figures of their time and during his academic research, he sought to present not only the artist, but also the effects of his works.

This book is a 1930 reprint of the original 1916 edition.

Please note: This book is written in German.

The slipcase shows signs of shelf wear and tanning but its joints are intact. Due to being in the slipcase the book is in excellent condition. The front free endpaper gives a date of 'August 1947'. The binding is tight. The pages are clean though there are some comments written in pencil on some of the pages.
