£48.00

Product description

Contains three fairy tales by Charles Robert Dumas which have been translated by Pia Hewlett; Jack Bruin, The Little Man in the Haystack and The Story of the Three King's Sons and of a Man Who Thought He Could Tell Lies. Tissue-guarded colour frontispiece and 8 tissue-guarded colour plates & as well as numerous b/w illustrations by Maurice Lalau throughout the text all of which are complete and present. The first five colour plates are loose from the binding and are edgeworn but no tears or marks. There are several b/w illustrations within the Jack Bruin story that have been tastefully coloured in with colouring pencils. There are minor signs of foxing to the edges of the textblock and the binding is loose with some pages at the front that are detached (ffep and list of illustrations). Ink inscriptions from the previous owners are on the ffep dated 1929. The green boards are clean and there is a beautiful gilt dragon illustration on the spine. The spine does have some damage with two horizonal tears across the spine in the middle as well as a 6cm tear in the middle between the spine and front board. The spine is edgeworn at the base and top. See photos for more detail.
