Product description

A short book for children. Twelve chapters describing life at the Grange. There are innumerable print-on-demand examples but the original book is decidedly rare.

Blackwood hardback with no DJ. Green covered boards with imitation leather texture. There is an intricate illustration in gilt on the front cover of four children, one on a rocking horse, in a mock battle. Gilt lettering to front and spine. Embossed boarder to front and back board. Corners somewhat bent, but the edges are in good condition. Wear to the top and, particularly the bottom of the spine cover. Gilt o ll edges of he text block. Three separate ink inscriptions on the front end pages variously dated 1862, 1868 and 1869. The binding is good BUT there are two illustrations which are present but not attached and their condition is not good., I think, the illustration opposite p174 entitled "The Christmas Tree Drawing the Prize" is missing. There is a small putti on one of the front pages which is coloured and the frontispiece entitled The Holiday Walk is present, properly bound and with its protective transparency. It is attributed to p 67.

A rarity but with manifest defects.
