Hellas: or, The Home, History, Literature and Art of the Greeks.

£19.99

Product description

Assembled after Jacob's death these notes were the material from which he gave a series of lectures to King Louis of Bavaria i n 1808. The series was interrupted by the King being called to arms and never resumed. The notes were assembled in 1853 and this was the English translation of the German original..

Parker hardback with no DJ. This little book has had a very hard life and is either a reading copy or a challenge for the restorer. The text block is very good, firm and unmarked,, with marbled end papers and cut edges, and with the rear cover firmly attached. However the front cover has come completely adrift and there has been substantial edge and corner wear.l The covers are completely covered in leather and there is a dedication on the front cover - "Oxford Local Examination First Class Junior W.J.Stewart" then the Liverpool Liver bird in gilt and "Liverpool 18964". There is no spine cover.

It is very difficult to price such sad remnants. Were this in good condition a three figure sum would clearly be appropriate. In need of TLC we offer it at a much more reasonable sum
