Volumes 1 to 3, first editions of W.S. Lindsay's History of Ancient Shipping and Modern Commerce. All three are ex-library books in similar conditions. There is stamping most pages, including on the back of maps. no dust jackets. Spines are quite worn but no damage otherwise to the books, no/little foxing.

The copy of volume 1 includes two maps. The first is a map showing ancient caravan and other trading routes across the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Central Asia, India and China. This has been repaired by the Whitechapel Library with some damage and stamping to the back. The second map is unique to this copy, showing General Annenkoff's projected Russo-Indian Railway. While not directly relevant to the book it also shows the existing railways in Asia and Europe along with shipping routes, showing the relationship between trade methods and how they are used by different countries in competing ways.
