Homer , The Iliad

£90.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

Fantastic Fourth Edition, 715 pages, the complete epic poem in original Ancient Greek, with English notes illustrating the grammatical construction, manners and customs of the age with lots of points of importance. This light brown calf skin 1853 edition is lightly scuffed at head of spine and corners with a small tear on the rear but the calf skin is still attached and could be restored as this book is firmly bound. The condition of the pages are excellent with no discolouration. There is some annotation to parts of the poem suggesting this was a studied text. Annotation is light and does not start until page 498, line 425 of the poem. Slightly heavier annotation between lines pages 502 and page 509, lines 530 and 760 but this does add to the charm of this edition. Hand written name on inside cover shows the book belonged to a pupil at Eton College.
