It examines the historical basis, theological implications, and bacteriological evidence as well as Anglican church regulations surrounding the practice.

Hardback first edition, without dustjacket; covers marked (see picture) and bumped towards edges, with some gilding remaining on cloth spine. Inscription by original owner in ink, and light foxing around edges of pages, all of which remain crisp and completely readable, and in otherwise excellent condition.
