Japhet, In Search of a Father

£14.99

Product description

First published in 1836 this is one of a uniform edition published in 1896 known as the King's Own editions. It is illustrated by E J Wheeler with several full page monochrome plates and there is an introduction by W L Courtney.

The author, Captain Frederick Marryat (1792 – 1848) was a British Royal Navy officer, novelist, and an acquaintance of Charles Dickens, noted today as an early pioneer of the sea story. He is now known particularly for the semi-autobiographical novel Mr Midshipman Easy and his children's novel The Children of the New Forest, and for a widely used system of maritime flag signalling, known as Marryat's Code.

The cover has a fair amount of rubbing and wear, there is some discolouration to the inside front covers and light foxing to the text pages in places, but the book is still generally in good condition.
