Publisher: Collins, London and Glasgow, 1959 1st edition. Hardback, 256 pages, unclipped dustjacket. Rear of title page states at top 'First Printed 1959' and 'C Anthony Buckeridge, 1959' at bottom. Cover, in pink boards with black titling to spine, is in good/very good condition with just minor bumping to top and bottom of spine. Book internally is good to very good with tight binding, clear, clean, bright pages and illustrations with no tears or creases. Neat pencil inscribed price to front endpaper and further faint pencil inscribed number on rear endpaper (both easily erased if not required) and some tanning to front and rear endpapers. Minor tanning spots to page block fore edge. Dustjacket, which is not price clipped, is in fair condition commensurate with age with general shelf wear to edges, creasing to top edge, small tear to bottom of spine and larger tear (with a little loss) to top of spine. Overall a very decent and honest first edition copy of this children's classic with excellent illustrations (and frontispiece in colour) by Mays.
