The Bedtime Story Books collection by Thornton W Burgess
Thornton W Burgess is already well known here as the author of "The Bedtime Stories" which form a regular feature of the Children's Hour broadcast by the BBC. These stories are taken from his books, which for many years have had an increasing sale among children all over the world, over five million copies having been sold.
The author has been intensely interested in animals all his life. From the age of twelve when work was over he would go up to the woods to watch and study the life of nature, and in later years, although immersed in business, the world of nature always remained the real world to him.
One year, when his son was away on a holiday, he wrote him a story every day and sent it to him to be read at bedtime. These stories, which were all about his animal friends, were afterwards published in book form. They were an immediate success and now over thirty titles have appeared under his name.
Short stories, with black and white illustrations, and one colour illustration. Illustrations by Harrison Cady.
