Published in 1888, half leather hardback French edition with 5 banded spine imprinted "J.P. 16 Juillet 1891" at the foot. Entirely in the French language. Halevy had been in a successful playwright partnership with Meilhac for over 20 years but it was not until the publication of L'Abbe Constantin the he received universal admiration. A family story that entranced the public, L'Abbe is a keenly observed tale and was likened to an antidote to the pessimism of Zola. There were over 150 editions published even before the author's death in 1908 and it ranks as one of the all-time best sellers of literature. Liberally illustrated with colour depictions.

Condition: Very good slight denting and wear to the corners, minor wear to the leather with some rubbing,Inner boards have some discolouration around rims, some very minor foxing to the last few pages, minimal tanning, binding is strong and secure.
