Last Poems of James Russell Lowell

£17.99

Product description

Undated, circa 1895, published by A D Innes & Co. Maroon cloth decorated in gilt, rough cut page edges. Printed with facing pages blank.

These are Lowell's last 10 poems, two of them published for the first time in this volume. There is an etching opposite the title page based on a photograph of the author aged 70.

James Russell Lowell (1819 – 1891) was an American Romantic poet, critic, editor, and diplomat. He is associated with the Fireside Poets, a group of New England writers who were among the first American poets who rivalled the popularity of British poets. These poets usually used conventional forms and meters in their poetry, making them suitable for families entertaining at their fireside.

There is some rubbing wear on the covers and a small amount of foxing on the title pages. The internal pages are in a good clean condition and the binding is sound. Some light foxing.
