Adelaide-Gillette Billet Dufrenoy got married at the age of 15 to a Parisian prosecutor. The Revolution ruined him and he spent some time in a minor governmental role in Egypt. On returning to the capital the family fortunes improved but following the death of her husband, Mme Dufrenoy sustained herself by her writing. She wrote poetry of what is described as “amiably erotic” form being dubbed the Sappho of Paris, and wrote instruction manuals and schoolbooks. She was an early example of female self reliance.
Small hardback book of the games of children classified by the seasons of the year in which they are popular. The book is in French. Frontispiece of the seasons being distributed to children with the title page having a vignette of kite flying., There are eight other pages of illustrations, each having a pair of etchings showing children at play.
Eymery hardback in full leather. There is moderate wear to the board corners and to the top and bottom of the spine. Gilt patterning and lettering to spine cover. No marks. End pages marbled. The initial pages are slightly off true suggesting that this is a rebinding. Text exclusively in French
