Letters to a Friend

£34.99

Product description

A 1st edition published in 1928 by George Allen & Unwin Ltd, Letters to a Friend is a delightful book by Bengali polymath, Rabindranath Tagore.

The book was compiled by C.F. Andrews and contains the letters written to him by Tagore during the years 1913-1922. This edition revvises and enlarges these letters for the first time, dividing the material into chapters with a brief explanatory summary of the circumstances in which the letters were written. The book also contains two essays: one on the Bengal Renaissance and one on the Personality of Tagore.

In terms of condition, the book is in fair condition. It appears to be missing its original dustjacket and for this, its original green hardboards are bumped and scuffed at their corners. The paper covering its spine is unfortunately also missing.

Internally, binding does still remain generally tight with a few rips and tears to its fabric. There is a brown transfer print on the front free endpaper as well as the name and date of the previous owner. There is some foxing along the page edges as well as a library stamp. The back endpaper also has a large sticker on it that has been torn off.

A very scarce edition of a highly interesting book, Letters to a Friend is a must-have book for all those fascinated by the work of Rabindranath Tagore.
