Lettres de Ciceron a Atticus (Vol. I & Vol. II)

£100.00

Product description

This two volume set comprises the 1714 edition of Cicero's infamous letters to Atticus. The Latin version of the text and the French translation are found side by side with the editors remarks interspersed throughout. In letters to his dear friend Atticus, Cicero reveals himself as to no other of his correspondents except, perhaps, his brother. These letters also provide a vivid picture of a momentous period in Roman history--years marked by the rise of Julius Caesar and the downfall of the Republic.

Each volume has a hardback cover and spine both with some signs of wear - the front cover is hanging on by a thread (literally!) and front cover of the second volume is completely detached. Volume 1's spine in slightly cracked but the pages of both volumes are still attached. As expect with such old books there are bumps and scuffs to each copy's corners. Both books contain the name of a previous owner on the first page but otherwise the pages are remarkably in tact and free of any writing, markings or highlighting. Foxing is minimal but present throughout. Some pages are dog-eared.

Overall the opportunity to own such fabulous book from as early as 1714 is one not to be missed! Grab yourself a real treasure while you can!
