Mammalia: A Popular Introduction to Natural History

£94.99

Product description

Undated first edition of Jones's final 1873 work with 200 illustrations. Likely a very early edition c. 1875(?). Boards are quarter bound in green leather with green leather corner protection and marbled paper. Spine features gilt titling, decoration and five raised bands. Exterior exhibits signs of shelf and handling wear, all commensuate with age. Page edges are waxed and marbled, matching both the boards and the endpapers. Full page frontispiece depicts gazelle like animals in a savannah setting. Title page bears a school library stamp (Christ Church, Greenwich), however the book exhibits very little wear and tear considering this. There are no inscriptions or annotations to the content, and the pages remain almost entirely clean and unfoxed. Binding is tight and the hinges intact. This is in excellent condition and is lavishly illustrated with detailed black and white engravings to the extent that almost every pair of facing pages bears an illustration. An excellent edition for the collector & reader alike. This is a heavy item and may incur additional postage costs. Listed by volunteer Morgan F.
