Published by Chapman and Hall in 1840, 1841 and 1841. (1) iv, 306, (2) vi, 306, (3) 426pp. Contemporary binding, half leather over marbled boards. Vol 1 has no spine , Vol 2 and 3 spines split and badly rubbed. All the volumes are tightly bound and enhanced with the wonderful illustrations of George Cattermole and Hablot Browne, with frontispiece and then throughout the text. Each volume has the occasional mark or stain and discolouration mainly to the end papers but overall the internal condition is very good. Owner’s name, in pencil, of Vol. 1, title page, no other inscriptions. Definitely a first edition worth a little tlc!
