La Rochefoucauld, Francois Duc de la Rochefoucauld (French author - 1613-1680)

Translation and introduction by Kenneth Pratt. The Maxims were first published in 1665, this is the first complete edition in both French & English (French on left page & English on page opposite). On the half title page the Coat of Arms of La Rochefoucauld is printed in red and black.

Grey embossed paper dust jacket with green titles, with some shelf wear and chips to spine. Quarter Vellum & Marbled binding with some minor wear and foxing. Contents clean and tight, marbled end papers, printed on rough cut paper. Cut edges of pages are foxed. Former owner's library plate sticker on inside front cover giving details of the provenance of the book.
