Published in 1946 by Robert Grant & Sons as no.1 of the Scottish Classics series, this is Lord Cockburn's Memorials of His Time, abridged and edited with notes by W. Forbes Gray. Contains portraits in colour and other illustrations.

From the book's introduction: "...the most graphic and entertaining account of the social, literary and political state of Scotland during the closing decades of the eighteenth and the first thirty years of the nineteenth century..."

Good condition hardback, with gilt titles to the front cover and spine. The spine is lightly faded, and the top edge of the block has darkened. The cover is stained along the edge, both front and back. Some minimal shelf-wear. The front free endpaper bears a former owner's inscription, and both front and rear free endpapers are lightly foxed.
