Memories The memoirs of Jennie Tuttle Hobart wife of U S vice President Garret A Hobart

£100.00

Product description

A beautiful, privately-published book from 1933, bound in black leather. Gold-embossed spine, front and back boards and top page edges. The memoirs of Jennie Tuttle Hobart, wife of US vice-president Garret A. Hobart, written on request of their son, Garret Hobart Jr, "in order that his children may know something of the life which their grandfather and I led in Washington".

Top and side page edges somewhat rough, most probably printed like this.

The book is in otherwise excellent condition. Pages are perfectly clean, no marking or foxing to any of them. However, on the first page is written in blue ink "For [illegible] and Mary, from Aunt Jennie". We believe this is probably the author's dedication to one of her friends or relatives. Furthermore, on the last page (eighty-nine), there is written in the same ink and handwriting "Jennie T. Hobart". This book is exceedingly rare, with perhaps only a few copies ever printed, and therefore very collectible.
