ΤΗΣ ΚΑΙΝΗΣ ΔΙΑΟΗΚΗΣ ΑΠΑΝΤΑ NOVUM TESTAMENTUM Editio Tertia

£350.00

Product description

A rare opportunity to obtain this very scarce edition of the New Testament published in Greek by Wal. Rudimanos, Edinburgh, in 1771.

Plain brown leather covered boards. Similar spine with 5 raised bands with short title "GRECUM TESTAMET" blind stamped on the spine. Wear to the hinges and corners, which are bumped, the boards have some scuff marks. The pastedowns on the front and rear boards are torn at the hinge but the boards are still firmly connected to the binding. There is evidence of some inscription on the front pastedown but it is indecipherable. The date 1790 is inscribed on the ffe. The plain endpapers are stained at the edges. The rear endpapers are inscribed in ink and pencil, the bottom corners is damaged with wear.

The frontispiece has a 4 cm tear by the bottom of the binding and the coloured print from the title page has bled across. The title page is two colour, red and black. A previous owner has inscribed and dated (1870) the title page in very small writing. There may be a page missing between the introduction in Latin and the start of the main text in Greek. There are no continuous page numbers at this point so it is difficult to tell. The main text block is in Greek in two columns.

The binding is in remakably good condition with a majority of it being still tight leading to the impression that it has not seriously been used.
