An exposition of his moral passions and an influential work in Victorian times. First part of book gives a detailed account of his life.

1893 edition in original red binding with gilt title on spine and impressed black title and decoration on end boards. Frontis portraits of Carlyle with faux inscription on fly and vignette of his house in great Cheyne Row on title page. Slight bumping to spine and some pencil annotations but overall in good condition for its age with good colour to boards and tight binding.
