Parables from Nature: complete edition, 1880

£17.99

Product description

"New and Complete Edition", 1880. Written by Mrs Alfred Gatty, ie. Margaret Gatty (1809 - 1873).
Illustrated by Holman Hunt, Burne Jones, Tenniel and others.

The front board and spine are gilt-decorated; also, all edges are gilt and the boards are bevelled; the title page is printed in red and black. In good condition, with some light spotting to the first few pages and the rear endpaper; the boards are very slightly loose. Heraldic-style owner's label on the inside of the front board, and the (original?) owner's name and date -11th Sept 1881 - on the half-title page.

Margaret Gatty's "Parables" clearly demonstrate her depth of knowledge of natural history. Originally for children, but enjoyed by adults, and with an introductory memoir of the author by her daughter, Juliana Ewing, this is a good copy of these varied and interesting stories.
