Pilgrim's Progress

£24.99

Product description

In 1842 the Art Union of London sponsored a public competition. They invited submissions for "a consecutive series of designs in outline illustrative of some epoch in British history or of the work of some English Author". They received thirty sets of drawings and those of H.C.Selour were judged the best. The Art Union then published this volume containing 42 of the illustrations, the original text and some autobiographical notes.

Holloway hardback with no DJ. This volume is totally disbound but all the illustrations are present. The boards are in half leather and show very severe wear. Gilt lettering to front and the edges of the sheets are in gilt also. Extensive foxing irregularly distributed through the book. Landscape orientation,.

This book is in terrible condition and really merits the knacker's yard. However the quality of the illustrations, even taking into account the foxing, is very attractive. We therefore offer it at a very reasonable price in the hope that someone with the appropriate skills might restore it to its original state.
