Poems Chiefly in the Scottish Dialect by Robert Burns 1800 two volume edition printed by Adam Neill Edinburgh

£100.00

Product description

Publisher: Edinburgh, Printed by Adam Neill and Co for T.Cadell jun and W. Davies, London and W. Creech, Edinburgh. 1800. Hardback in two volumes. 'A new Edition, considerably enlarged'. Covers of both volumes, in marbled boards with leather spines and corners and green leather title cartouches to spine with gilt titling and designs to spine, are in decent condition for their 216 years - volume 1 is fair to good while Volume 2 is only fair. Volume 1 has some rubbing and wear to spine, a one inch split to top of spine, some rubbing to corners and some general shelf wear, but generally sound with reasonably firm binding. Volume 2 has one inch tears and rubbing to top and bottom of spine, rubbing along spine edges and on corners, some small dark stains on spine and general shelf wear but still retains its overall integrity and has not significantly impacted the general health of the binding. The books themselves are both in decent condition for age with a degree of tanning and light foxing throughout, small inscriptions to title page, a few stains/marks on endpapers and title pages, some damp staining to lower portion of first 60 pages or so of volume 2 and usual browning to page block edges. The bindings of both volumes are still reasonably firm with books and covers still firmly attached by the binding chords, however the paper joints between endpapers and paste-downs have split. Once again, volume 1 is is in better overall condition than volume 2.
In summary, a decent copy of this rare two volume 1800 edition of the poetry of Robert Burns.
