Poetical Sketches by William Blake, Now First Reprinted from the Original Edition of 1783

£11.99

Product description

Date: 1868. Edited and prefaced by Richard Herne Shepherd. Scarce.

Blake's Poetical Sketches consist of 19 lyric poems, including "To Spring" and "To the Muses", as well as 7 other short literary works.
The preface to this 1868 edition is by R H Shepherd, who also edited works by Shelley, Lamb, Poe and Dickens. This early work by the author of "Jerusalem" and "The Tyger", carefully edited by Shepherd, is remarkable for the promise which Blake showed at a young age.

There is a previous owner's name, dated 1870, on the title page. While the endpapers are slightly browned and there is some spotting along the edges, our copy is in good condition for its age; the Contents pages are uncut. Part of the backstrip is loosened and one section inside is slightly detached. It is in its original brown cloth boards with the label on the spine faded but still clearly visible. A good example of this scarce edition. Item will be sent by Royal Mail special delivery at a cost of £6.95
