Rational Hydrotherapy

£50.00

Product description

Sub title "SA manual of the Physiological and Therapeutic Effects of Hydriatic Procedure and the techniqe of their application in the treatment of Disease..
John Harvey Kellogg was a remarkable man. Raised in Michigan after a number of jobs, he gained MD at the University of New York.. He produced a considerable number of publications, and also set up a local Health Clinic in Battle Creek. He was a Seventh Day Adventist although the development of his ideas caused the church to excommunicate him. He and his wife fostered a large number of children and they adopted 8 of them. He and his brother developed the process for making Corn Flakes (Originally called Granolo), although there was eventually animosity between the brothers.
This substantial volume is a detailed examination of the effects of hydrotherapy in a variety of disorders - indeed the spectrum seems to encompass all the ailments to which flesh is heir. What is remarkable is the application of physiology; there can be only a few medical texts of this era which contain as many traces of scientific measurements.
Davis second edition of 1904. Harback with no DJ. Cloth covered boards which show some edge and cornre wear and scuffing of the upper margins There is mild wear of the upper and lower edges of the spine cover. The binding is good, No marks. Some soiling of the page edges. We are told that there are 293 illustrations eighteen of which are in colour.
A curiosity of one of the byways of the history of medicine, here from the United States. A large heavy book for which additional postal costs may be necessary.
