Sermons Volume III

£9.99

Product description

1801. Volume III Twelfth edition.
Hugh Blair was a Scottish minister of religion, author and rhetorician, considered one of the first great theorists of written discourse. Blair published the first of his five volume series Sermons in 1777. It is a compilation of the sermons promoting practical Christian morality he delivered as a Presbyterian preacher. Despite the declining popularity of published religious teachings at the time, the success of Sermons paralleled Blair's success as a preacher. Sermons is his best-known work.
The leather cover is very worn with the top and bottom of the spine missing and a crack starting to show at the back between the spine and the cover. The surface of the leather is worn away and one of the corners is worn through. The text block is remarkably clean with just a small area at the top which looks to have had some water ingress approx 1cm down and going through approx. one quarter of the book and leaving a light brown stain. Occasional pages show some tanning, but the pages are remarkably clean and free from any speckling.
The cover is in need of some tlc, but this is a very good book.

In our shop you can discover a great range of material from the latest modern fiction to classic literature and vintage LPs. We are always happy to receive your donations of books or music, and you can choose to Gift Aid them to Oxfam. We might also be able to collect particularly large donations - just ask. Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
