The Antarctic Regions

£55.00

Product description

This is the second edition of a translation by by A Sonnenschein from the original German. In the author's preface he says that one of the handicaps under which he laboured was that"I had not the actual and personal acquaintance with the regions to be described". However the recent death of Dallmann meant that "no one now in Germany has with his own eyes beheld the Antarctic world" and so he felt justified in drawing together the information from as many sources as he could.

Swan Sonnenschein / Macmillan hardback book with no DJ. Red cloth covered boards with gilt vessel among icebergs on the front with gilt lettering and gilt lettering also to spine. There is a linear stain on the outside of the covering of the rear hinges and one or two white spots. There is a little wear to the top and bottom of the spline cover but in general the boards are in very good condition Binding good. There are many monochrome illustrations both full page and embedded in the text. The major problem is with the fold out map which has been severely torn; all the components are present and attached to one another but a repair job is urgently required.

Nowadays cruising to the antarctic is commonplace. It is sobering to realise how little was known a mere 110 years ago!
