The Book of the Garden : Vol. 2 - Cultural (1853)

£75.00

Product description

Published in 1853 by William Blackwood and Sons, in two volumes. Green boards are decorated with gilt design on front and spine. Illustrated with black & white line drawings

This is a heavy volume by Charles M'Intosh (1794-1864), the Scottish horticulturist. Detailed and thorough, full of useful information.

Although this is Volume II only it feels 'complete' in its own right with sections covering: The Culinary or Kitchen Garden; The Hardy Fruit Garden; and The Flower Garden. Includes a Glossary of technical terms and 3 Indexes: Select Lists of Vegetables and Plants; Select Lists of Plants; and a General index.

The board cover is a bit worn and shabby, particularly on the corners and spine, with splits developing on the front and rear hinges. The page edges are grubby, although the pages are generally clean. Binding is solid and sound.
