Product description

The complete poems of Giles Fletcher B.D edited with Memorial, Introduction and Notes by the Rev. Alexander B Grosart.
Giles Fletcher was of a talented literary family. He was the younger son of Giles Fletcher the Elder (minister to Elizabeth I), and the brother of the poet Phineas Fletcher, and cousin of the dramatist John Fletcher. This is a collection of his poetry both in Latin and English. His major claim to fame was the four cantos Christ's Victorie and Triumph, in Heaven, in Earth, over and after Death but there are here a collection of minor poems as well.

Chatto and Windus 1876 hardback with no DJ. Dark green cloth covered boards with label giving title and editor on the upper part of the spine. The corners are a little bent and both hinges are sprung, the front more than the rear. No marks. Many of the pages are uncut. Some generalised yellowing of the pages.

The Editor Alexander B Grosart initially produced a small number of copies of this work for limited circulation but demand was high and so he was happy to see the publication of this book in the series Early English Poets. He was the happier to do this because the limited edition had been printed at a provincial press with "merely mechanical workmen" so that his corrections were often ignored; this, then, is his revised collection.
