The Cut of Men's Clothes: 1600 - 1900

£34.99

Product description

In Corsets and Crinolines, Norah Waugh, studied the fundamental shapes of women's clothes. Her new book traces the evolution of style in men's dress through a sequence of diagrams accurately scaled down from patterns of actual garments, many of them rare museum specimens. The plates have been selected with the same purpose. Some are photographs of suits for which, diagrams have also been given; others, reproduced from paintings and old prints, show the costume complete with it's accessories. Quotations from contemporary sources supplement her text with descriptions of men's clothes, comments on fashion, details of bills. The few early technical books on tailoring known to exist are surveyed, with a judicious selection of quotations and diagrams.
Dust Jacket in good condition. Some signs of wear on the dust jacket. Firmly bound with no markings on the text or the illustrations. Ex-library book with the usual stamps
