The Death of Jesus

£6.99

Product description

"This book attempts to give on original lines a constructive interpretation of the death of Jesus. The circumstances of His death and the charges on which he was condemned are investigated, and compared with those which attended the death of Socrates. The relation of Jesus' own will to His death is then examined, and His ordeal in dying is explained in terms not of sufferings undergone but of temptations endured and overcome. The closing chapter studies the relation of God's will to the death of Jesus. It endeavours to show that such ideas as ransom, propitiation and satisfaction are paradoxical in character - as indeed prayer essentially is - and represent tentative efforts to express by a single conception the immediate dual reaction to the self-sacrifice of Jesus."

Book in good condition, although the dust jacket is damaged and there is foxing on the page edges due to age.
