The Golden Age [1915]

£19.99

Product description

Published by John Lane at The Bodley Head around 1915. With nineteen colour illustrations by R.J. Enraght-Moony. Illustrated end papers.

Written by Kenneth Grahame, as a young man in his 20s, Grahame began to publish light stories in London periodicals such as the St. James Gazette. Some of these stories were collected and published as Pagan Papers in 1893, and, two years later, The Golden Age. It is a book of stories and memories of childhood, with parallels to Greek mythology. The illustrations are full page paintings that truly bring the story to life.

In fair to good condition. A name is written in pen on the top corner of the second page and there is a prize book-plate, dated 1932, on the front end papers. Some foxing and yellowing on the pages throughout, but all pages and illustrations are present. Binding feels loose, with a split along the hinge of the front end paper.
