The Great World War A History, with various contributors and edited by Frank A. Mumby, was published in parts whilst the Great War was still in progress. It was available by subscription only due to the difficulties of book production at that time with paper being hard to obtain. Publication continued regardless because the work was considered of great importance due to it being a 'current record of the stupendous events now passing'. With plates, maps and plans, there are also numerous illustrations, photographs, maps and plans, some of which are full page integrated with text to all volumes.
Offered here are the first six volumes of a nine volume set, published between 1916 and 1917.
Volume one (1917) has three photogravure plates and nine coloured maps and plans, one of which folds out. Volume two (no date) has three photogravure plates and two coloured maps, one of which folds out. Volume three (1916) has three photogravure plates and four coloured maps. Volume four (no date) has three photogravure plates and four coloured maps and plans. Volume five (no date) has three photogravure plates and four coloured maps and plans. Volume six (no date) has three photogravure plates and four coloured maps, two of which fold out.
The condition of the books overall is good. They are bound in green cloth, embossed and gilt-stamped on the spine. There is some bumping, rubbing and wear to the boards. The pages are bright with slight scattered foxing and handling marks. There is some age toning to the endpapers.
