This tale for boys, written just before the first World War, is set in Osborne public school, and the naval college at Dartmouth.
Archibald K. Ingram also wrote several other similar books, including 'The Window' and 'Basil Verely' (set in Charterhouse School).
Our copy is in good condition for its age, bound in red cloth with gilt title etc on the illustrated front cover and spine. There is some shelf wear (top & bottom of spine, slight bumping to corners), and a small pale rectangular mark on the back cover where (presumably) a price sticker was affixed and then removed. Inside, the binding is generally firm (slight weakness at p.145), the pages are mostly clean (some very occasional foxing spots) and only minimally browned, apart from the half-title page, which is very brown, and has a 'ghost' of the ink-written dedication on the previous free endpaper. The final page of bookseller's advertisements is similarly affected. Seven illustrations by Donald Maxwell (6 B/W, with a coloured frontispiece) enliven the text. A very nice copy of a rare early 20th century first edition.
