This book, Volume One in the series, 'Animals in Black and White' shows through text and woodcut illustrations, large animals. It was written by Eric Fitch Daglish and published by J M Dent & Sons Ltd in 1928. It is a first edition. Some of the animals featured are: The elephant, the tapir, the wild boar, the okapi, the nilgai, the ibex, the lion and the wolf. The narrative details where the animals are found, feeding habits, predators, etc. At the side of the text is a woodcut illustration.
The book is in good condition though shows foxing to outside edge of pages. There are also dirty finger marks here and there, but these do not detract from the text or pictures. There are no markings or highlighting to pages. The hardback cover is good but is bumped to corners. The spine has frayed and the titling has come away (though a part of this is inside the book). Spine stitching is therefore exposed.
A really lovely book for collectors or those who like reading about large animals. This is a wonderfully rare example!
