£12.99

Product description

Third Edition, published by Mowbray and Co in 1890. Illustrated pictorial cover, and decorative end papers. The pages are interspersed with full page black & white drawings/prints.

The author, Augustine David Crake (1836–1890) was an English cleric and author, known for devotional works.

This book tells the story of the Blessed Richard Whiting (1461 – 1539), an English clergyman and the last Abbot of Glastonbury. Whiting presided over Glastonbury Abbey at the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries (1536–1541) under King Henry VIII of England. The king had him executed after his conviction for treason for remaining loyal to Rome. He is considered a martyr by the Roman Catholic Church, which beatified him on 13 May 1895

This book is in good condition with some rubbing wear and bumping to the cover. Darkening to the spine, some marks on the cover and discolouration with age. The pages are lightly yellowed with some foxing on the end papers. There is a split at the hinge on the end papers, however the spine binding is still attached.
