A very nice edition of James Boswell's classic, in two volumes. Undated, published c.1920 by Robert Riviere & Son. Attractive half-bound in tan coloured calf leather with gilt decorated spine with 5 raised bands. Decorative end papers. Gilt on top edge of pages.

Volume One covers the period 1709 to 1776 and Volume Two the period 1776 until Johnson's death in 1784. Contains useful footnotes together with an index at the end of the second volume. This is the classic account of the life of a famous man by his friend, full of lively anecdotes and details.
