With seventy-four cuts, designed and engraved on wood, by T. Bewick". Original tan leather boards, scuffed and edgeworn with corner losses. Early rebind to tan leather spine, top rear edge split 2cm, gilt titles. Binding secure. Page edges browned, some general browning, scattered foxing plus offsetting from engravings. [iv], 272pp; small b&w illus to each story head and end. Owner name front pastedown, closed tears to fore-edges of 2 pages, pp107/108 missing, 2 illus neatly coloured in.

A worn copy of this collection of moral tales but with text and Bewick's woodcuts overall well preserved.
